GPOY @ Sensory Illumination VIII
This being human is a guest house.
Every morning a new arrival.
A joy, a depression, a meanness,
some momentary awareness comes
as an unexpected visitor.
Welcome and entertain them all
Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,
who violently sweep your house
empty of its furniture.
Still treat each guest honorably,
He may be clearing you out
for some new delight.
The dark thought, the shame, the malice, meet them at the door laughing, and invite them in.
Be grateful for whatever comes,
because each has been sent
as a guide from beyond.
I won’t give up on us.
My dearest friend, Katie, lost her 10yr old daughter to cancer. Lula insisted that no one wear black to her memorial service. We were all to come in bright colors - lime green & purple were some favorites. I made the skirt worn by her Momma, Katie. I made it from some of Lula’s favorite things - her t-shirts and many of her dresses, all stitched together with love to create a garment that her Mommy wore to celebrate the life of her beautiful girl. So much love.
